Cheap Flights to Lagos from Leeds & Glasgow 2026: Routes, Connections & Tips

Cheap Flights to Lagos from Leeds & Glasgow 2026: A Guide for UK Travellers

Flying to Lagos from Yorkshire or Scotland? Every nonstop UK–Lagos flight leaves from London, so travellers in Leeds and Glasgow need to plan one extra step — either a connection into London or a connection through a European hub. This guide explains the realistic options from each city, which connections are protected on one ticket (and which aren't), and how to compare fares properly.

Quick answer: Can you fly direct to Lagos from Leeds or Glasgow?

No. There are no nonstop flights to Lagos from Leeds Bradford or Glasgow. Nonstop UK–Lagos flights operate from London Heathrow (British Airways and Virgin Atlantic) and London Gatwick (Air Peace). From either city, the simplest one-ticket option is usually KLM via Amsterdam; from Glasgow, British Airways via Heathrow is another.

We compare London and European routes for your exact dates to find the best option.

How Do You Get to Lagos from Glasgow?

Glasgow Airport has the wider choice of the two cities. The key question for each route is whether both flights can be booked on one ticket, because that decides who carries the risk if your first flight is late.

Connect via First leg from Glasgow Onward to Lagos One ticket?
AmsterdamKLM, several flights a dayNonstop with KLM✅ Yes, KLM throughout
London HeathrowBritish AirwaysNonstop with British Airways or Virgin Atlantic✅ Yes with British Airways; ask us about Virgin Atlantic connections
London GatwickDirect flights to GatwickNonstop with Air Peace⚠️ Usually separate tickets — check before booking
PariseasyJet to Charles de GaulleNonstop with Air France⚠️ No — separate tickets, self-transfer

Coming in 2027: Discover Airlines (part of the Lufthansa Group) plans to start Glasgow–Frankfurt flights from 29 March 2027. Lufthansa already flies nonstop from Frankfurt to Lagos, so this could become another option from next spring — but it isn't available for 2026 travel.

Schedules vary by season, so check that the first leg you want is operating on your travel dates before settling on a routing.

How Do You Get to Lagos from Leeds?

Leeds is more limited. Leeds Bradford Airport no longer has direct flights to London Heathrow — that service ended in 2022 — and there is currently no direct Leeds Bradford–Gatwick flight either. That leaves three approaches:

Option 1: KLM via Amsterdam (one ticket)

KLM flies from Leeds Bradford to Amsterdam Schiphol two to three times a day, and KLM also flies nonstop from Amsterdam to Lagos. Because both flights are with the same airline, you can book them on one ticket: if your Leeds flight is delayed and you miss the connection, KLM is generally responsible for rebooking you, and your bags are normally checked through to Lagos. For most travellers in West Yorkshire, this is the simplest option.

Option 2: Train to London, then fly nonstop

LNER trains from Leeds to London King's Cross take around 2 hours 12 minutes, with frequent direct services on weekdays. From King's Cross you'll then need to cross London to Heathrow (for British Airways or Virgin Atlantic) or Gatwick (for Air Peace), so allow plenty of extra time for the transfer and airport check-in. This route gives you access to all three nonstop London–Lagos options.

⚠️ If you take the train, build in a generous buffer. A delayed train is your responsibility, not the airline's — if you miss your flight because a train ran late, the airline generally won't rebook you for free. Many travellers choose an earlier train, or travel the day before for early-morning departures.

Option 3: Self-transfer via Paris (separate tickets)

Jet2 and easyJet fly from Leeds Bradford to Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Air France flies nonstop from Paris to Lagos. However, these are different airlines that you book separately, so Leeds → Paris → Lagos is not one protected ticket.

⚠️ With separate tickets, the connection risk is yours. If your flight to Paris is late and you miss the Air France flight, Air France has no obligation to rebook you, and you may need to buy a new ticket. You'll also usually need to collect your bags, go through passport control and check in again in Paris — so leave several hours between flights, or consider travelling the day before.

One Ticket or Separate Tickets? Why It Matters

When you're connecting from Leeds or Glasgow, how you book matters as much as the route:

  • One ticket (one booking reference): if your first flight is delayed and you miss the connection, the airline is generally responsible for getting you onto a later flight. Your checked bags are usually tagged through to Lagos, so you won't need to collect and re-check them at the hub.
  • Separate tickets: a cheap short-haul flight plus a separately booked flight to Lagos can look cheaper on paper, but if the first flight is late and you miss the second, the second airline has no obligation to help — you may need to buy a new ticket. You'll also usually need to collect your bags and check in again.

For a long-haul trip to Lagos — especially with checked luggage, or travelling as a family — a single through-ticket is usually the safer choice, even if the headline fare is slightly higher. If you're booking for several people, our guide to family and group flights to Nigeria covers baggage pooling and keeping everyone on one booking.

Which Route Is Cheapest from Leeds or Glasgow?

There's no single answer. Fares change constantly and depend on your exact dates, how far ahead you book, seat availability and how much baggage is included. A KLM routing via Amsterdam is sometimes cheaper than connecting via London — and sometimes it isn't. The only reliable way to know is to compare the options side by side for your specific dates.

A few factors that commonly push the price up:

  • December travel — "Detty December" is a major peak-demand period for Lagos, and fares can be significantly higher. See our guide to the best time to book flights to Lagos from the UK for more on seasonal pricing.
  • UK and Nigerian school holidays
  • Booking very late, when cheaper fare classes have sold out
  • Baggage not included — a low base fare can end up costing more once you add checked bags

Baggage When Connecting

  • Allowances differ between airlines — British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Air Peace, KLM and Air France each set their own rules, and they vary by fare type.
  • On a single ticket, the allowance is usually set by the main long-haul airline, but check the details for every leg of your journey before you pack.
  • If you book separate tickets, a low-cost short-haul flight may include little or no checked baggage, so you could pay extra just to get your bags to the hub.

Tips for Leeds and Glasgow Travellers

  • Compare London and Amsterdam routings — don't assume going via London is the cheapest or quickest.
  • Book everything on one ticket where possible, for missed-connection protection and through-checked bags.
  • Check minimum connection times — an itinerary with a very short connection is riskier, particularly in winter.
  • Check seasonal schedules — some regional flights run less often outside peak periods.
  • Be flexible by a day or two if you can; it can make a noticeable difference to the fare.

Visa and Entry Requirements for Lagos

British citizens travelling to Nigeria generally need a visa before travel — there is no visa-on-arrival option for ordinary visitors, though requirements can vary by nationality, dual-citizenship status and individual circumstances. On a one-ticket connection through Amsterdam you'll normally stay airside, but a self-transfer in Paris usually means passing through French border control, so check the rules for your passport. Frequently Asked Questions

Are there direct flights to Lagos from Glasgow?

No. There are no nonstop flights from Glasgow to Lagos. The simplest one-ticket options are KLM via Amsterdam or British Airways via London Heathrow. You can also connect via Gatwick or Paris, but those are usually separate tickets.

Are there direct flights to Lagos from Leeds?

No. Leeds Bradford has no flights to Lagos and no longer has direct flights to London Heathrow. The most practical options are KLM via Amsterdam on one ticket, or taking the train to London and flying nonstop from Heathrow or Gatwick.

Can I fly from Leeds to Lagos via Paris?

You can, but not on one protected ticket. Jet2 and easyJet fly Leeds–Paris and Air France flies Paris–Lagos, so you would book them separately. If your first flight is late and you miss the second, the risk is yours, so leave a long gap between flights.

Is it cheaper to fly to Lagos via London or via Amsterdam?

It depends on your dates. A KLM routing via Amsterdam is sometimes cheaper than connecting via London, and sometimes not. Comparing both for your exact dates is the only reliable way to find the best fare.

Should I book my connecting flight on the same ticket?

Usually, yes. On a single ticket the airline is generally responsible for rebooking you if a delay causes you to miss your connection, and your bags are normally checked through to Lagos. With separate tickets, you carry that risk yourself.

How long is the train from Leeds to London?

LNER trains from Leeds to London King's Cross take around 2 hours 12 minutes. Allow extra time to cross London to Heathrow or Gatwick, and leave a generous buffer before your flight.

Do I need a visa to fly to Lagos from the UK?

British citizens generally need a Nigerian visa before travelling, as there is no visa-on-arrival option for ordinary visitors, though this can vary by nationality and individual circumstances. See our Nigeria Visa Requirements guide for the full process.
